The Red Sails Project was created by Us, a group of friends who share the same passion for the kids we met in orphanages while on our travels to St. Petersburg, Russia. One day over coffee, it was decided that steps needed to be taken to fill the daily needs of these kids as well as offer the older kids a stable living environment when they have to leave the orphanage. We decided that it was our job to raise awareness and create an outlet for others to help these kids.
The Red Sails name was taken from a story, "The Scarlet Sails" (Алые Паруса), written by Alexander Green, a Russian writer who wrote about a girl named Assol who waited for her prince to sail in on a ship with scarlet sails. Assol was promised that the man she would marry would come into port on a ship with scarlet sails, so she waited for her prince every day. Years passed and a young man, a nobleman's son, sailed into port with his crew and came across Assol as she was sleeping. He fell in love instantly and started asking others about the girl. The villagers told him that she was crazy and she waited every day for her prince on a ship with scarlet sails. The young man rushed back to his ship to dye his sails scarlet and win the heart of the girl he fell in love with. Assol saw him sail in with scarlet sails and fell in love with him.
This story represents Hope. We are reminded that if we have the ability to "dye our sails red," then we should use our resources to help others.
As a Christian organization, we want these kids to know Jesus truly loves them and that He is their constant in a life full of inconsistency. We want to take care of them, and we'll need everyone's help to do it.
They're waiting for the Red Sails,
you in??
